Travel Nurse Across America Merges With Wisconsin Health Care Staffing Agency TotalMed

Travel Nurse Across America (TNAA) of North Little Rock is merging with TotalMed of Appleton, Wisconsin, combining two leading U.S. providers of health care staffing services, the companies announced Wednesday.

The deal will significantly expand services available to clients and health workers, the privately held companies said in a news release. The combined company will offer travel nursing; flexible staffing for short-term needs; staffing in health insurance roles and non-clinical hospital roles; expert talent for life sciences organizations; strike staffing and more.

Tim McKenzie, who has led TNAA since 2019, was named CEO of the combined company.

“Our shared vision, values, and commitment to innovation will allow us to not only meet but exceed the expectations of the healthcare industry,” he said in the release. “This merger represents a transformative moment that positions us as a premier partner for healthcare talent and solutions.”

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

TNAA, which reported revenue of $1.01 billion in 2022, is owned by investment firm Gridiron Capital of New Canaan, Connecticut.

TotalMed is owned by private equity firm Stella Point Capital of New York.

The merger includes the companies’ workforce management divisions. Together, TNAA’s SimpliFi and TotalMed’s Staffency provide workforce solutions for over 2,200 care sites across the U.S., including contract labor management for physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals and non-clinical workers.

SimpliFi’s shift fulfillment platform helps hospitals to optimize their staffing by utilizing their own personnel or local gig workers. It aims to increase patient care revenue while reducing premium labor costs. SimpliFi also created and facilitates the RED (Reflect Exchange Define) Labor Summits, which bring groups of health care executives together to collaborate on workforce strategy.

Staffency’s Vendor Management System provides clients with data on market bill rates, enabling them to make more informed workforce decisions.

“We knew this merger was right because we share the same core vision: to serve as a true partner to healthcare systems,” James Quick, president of SimpliFi, said in the release. “By combining our expertise, we will continue to build long-term customer relationships while bringing new and innovative solutions to market.”
